The World Health Organization names the Wuhan Coronavirus a public health emergency as the virus is thought to have infected over 8,000 people in 20 different countries now, with six infections in the US. Petroleum analyst for gas-buddy-dot-com Patrick De Haan says the infection has sent gas prices tumbling to 2.15 a gallon, an eight-cent drop in the last week due to collapsing demand from China. DeHaan says it’s possible the statewide average could get down to two dollars a gallon.


From the “Not the sharpest  knife in the drawer” department, there has been a spike in Google searches of people trying to figure out if coronavirus has a connection to Corona beer. Since January 18th, searches have skyrocketed for the terms "Beer Coronavirus," "Beer Virus," and "Corona Beer Virus."  So far, Corona beer's parent company has yet to comment.


KALB TV reports a Pineville man has been arrested after allegations he was involved in murder for hire. 29 year old Curtis Dean Lacombe, Jr. was arrested earlier this week.

Lacombe, Jr. was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center in reference to one count of solicitation for murder and one count of violation of a protective order. Lacombe, Jr. is currently being held in lieu of $130,000 bond.


Authorities in Avoyelles Parish report a Bunkie man is under arrest for two shooting incidents that happened in the last three months. 18 year old Travis Green faces charges of assault by drive-by shooting and three counts of attempted second degree murder. Green is being held in the Avoyelles Parish Jail on a $500,000 bond.


The story involving the Saints and their involvement with the New Orleans Archdiocese’s sexual abuse crisis is not going away. The lawyers for one of the victims claim the Saints actively helped shape the list of credibly accused clergy. The Saints say their behind the scenes public relations work was minimal.


Saints Coach Sean Payton said today he honestly doesn’t know if quarterback Drew Brees will return for his 20th season. Payton made the comments on the D-A Show on C-B-S Sports Radio. Brees, who played in last Sunday’s Pro Bowl, said he plans to spend the next month with his family and then make a decision on whether he’ll play another season.


Houma Representative Jerome Zeringue has been named the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. The Republican from the Bayou was first elected to the House in 2015. Lafayette Representative Stuart Bishop will serve as chairman of House Ways and Means.


Authorities in Calcasieu Parish report an 18-year-old Lake Charles man has been arrested for having and uploading child pornography. Garrett O’Quain was arrested yesterday by Louisiana State and was found to be in possession of images and videos depicting child sex abuse. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on 376 counts of possession of pornography involving juveniles. His bond was set at $50,000.


3,100 dollars raised to “help purchase Clemson a new mascot costume” on GoFundMe in jest will instead be used to help protect real tigers in the wild. The account was created after LSU fans noticed Clemson’s fairly hideous tiger mascot on the sidelines during the National Championship game.


A study by Color of Change shows bias in television crime dramas helps shape public perception of criminal justice issues. President Rashad Robinson says one of the issues the study discovered was the makeup of TV writers. Robinson says roughly 80 percent of crime drama writers are white, and their bias was evident.


Food delivery will be a big business Sunday as many will gather to watch the 49ers clash with the Chiefs for Super Bowl LIV (pronounced 54). Delivery service app Waitr spokesperson Dean Turcol says 1.3 billion chicken wings will be consumed this weekend, so it’s no surprise it’s historically the most ordered item in the app. Super Bowl Sunday is one of America’s biggest eating holidays, second only to Thanksgiving.
