The National Weather Service says the high temperature in Shreveport Sunday was 108-degrees, which is a record for Shreveport for any day in July. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we’ll see temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s for the remainder of the week, but you will notice a difference in the humidity starting today. Keim says you can thank a change in the wind as it will come out of the north, instead of off the Gulf of Mexico.

A Natchitoches woman has been charged in the burning death of a six-month old child, who was set on fire last week after being kidnapped during an apparent home invasion. 25-year-old Felicia Marie-Nicole Smith has been charged with one count of first-degree murder for the death of Levi Cole Ellerbe. He says he is not guilty. That was the plea Monday by Roger Dale Boggs, the man accused of bank fraud. But none of that materialized, and creditors eventually began legal proceedings against him. A pretrial conference in the case was set for Nov. 8

The drugs are in the console… That’s what a Dry Prong man told a Grant Parish Sheriff deputy after he ran his vehicle into a ditch. 47-year-old Robert Averitt initially told the Deputy he had just ran out of beer.  As you may suspect, the deputy was not amused. The state’s sales tax holidays have been suspended until 2025 as a result of legislation approved in the last special session. For instance, we usually have a sales tax holiday for back to school shopping during the first weekend in August, but that’s not happening this year. The Tax Foundation’s Nicole Kaeding says sales tax holidays usually don’t produce cost savings for consumers, because retailers in many cases increase prices on those items.

Southeast Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise is set to seek his 6th term in office as representative of Louisiana’s 1st district. He’s regarded as one of the most influential members of Congress, and is the Republican Majority Whip. But, he will have a lot of company in running for that seat. That as 5 people qualified to run against him in November.

Governor John Bel Edwards sent an open letter to President Donald Trump imploring the Commander in Chief to consider the effects a trade war with China will have on the economy. Edwards cited a report from Forbes that says Louisiana is most at risk for damage from the tariffs. Edwards says it’s not a hostile letter, but a reminder about the dangers of a trade war. Last week Donald Trump threatened to put tariffs on all 505-billion dollars in Chinese imports.

The Tiger Truck Stop owner at the I-10 Grosse Tete exit has two new animals to replace the 17-year-old tiger that died in October as a result of kidney failure. Mike Sandlin says state law prohibits him from getting another tiger, so he now has a camel and a coati (Khu-wha-tee), which is a type of raccoon, for visitors to see. Sandlin says it’s still his hope to have another Tiger at the truck stop, but state law prohibits residents from owning large and exotic cats. So he’s  hoping to acquire enough animals to create a petting zoo. The Animal Legal Defense Fund has opposed the tiger exhibit at the gas station for many years.

LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri announced today the Tigers will open the 2019 season by hosting ULM on February 15th as part of a military appreciation weekend at Alex Box Stadium. Mainieri says it’s his hope LSU and Tulane will play each other every season in the Wally Pontiff Junior Classic in Metairie starting with the 2020 season.
